Lawyers assail CEC over poll ‘discrepancies’

• PBC, SCBA and SHCBA point out inconsistencies’ in delimitation, seat allocations

• Apex court bench refuses to take up delimitation issue to keep polls timeline intact


Legal bodies, including the Pakistan Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar Association, express serious concerns about alleged discrepancies in election procedures. They demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja for fair elections. The legal bodies question the transparency of elections, citing inconsistencies in delimitations and seat allocations. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) denies allegations, stating that media reports about an additional seat in the CEC’s native district are baseless. The Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) also raises concerns about the CEC’s conduct. The Supreme Court refuses to intervene in delimitation matters, emphasizing the importance of stability with the upcoming elections on Feb 8, 2024.
