Level playing field: SC to hear PTI’s contempt plea against ECP today

The Supreme Court on Wednesday will take up the PTI’s petition seeking initiation of contempt charges against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for alleged violation of its directives for a level playing field in the upcoming polls.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa is set to hear the PTI’s grievances against the rejection of its leaders’ nomination papers. The apex court had earlier directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to address the PTI’s concerns urgently. In a fresh application, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan sought contempt proceedings against the ECP for non-compliance. The PTI and ECP have been in conflict over the party’s symbol, and nearly 90% of nominations from important leaders failed scrutiny. The PTI now plans to challenge these rejections. The contempt petition names several officials and seeks a level playing field, urging the court to prevent the arrest of PTI candidates and ensure fair treatment in the election process.
