SC directs commission on enforced disappearances to submit ‘comprehensive’ report

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances to submit a “comprehensive report” on missing persons, along with the details of all production orders issued.

As a journalist, I would report on the Supreme Court’s directive to the commission on missing persons to prepare a report on all cases within 10 days. The court emphasized the importance of accepting responsibility to resolve the matter during a hearing on enforced disappearances. The discussion covered various cases, including the abduction of journalist Matiullah Jan, with the Chief Justice noting the lack of consequences for those involved. The Defence of Human Rights Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua shared her experience, and the court called for a report from the Attorney General. Additionally, the court sought a statement from the government ensuring no illegal detentions would occur. Simultaneously, I would cover the Baloch protesters’ call for a shutterdown strike across the country, citing demands for the release of detained protesters, an investigation into rights violations in Balochistan, and the elimination of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. The protesters expressed concerns about potential police crackdowns and lack of facilities.
