Baloch protesters threaten to set up camp in front of UN offices

ISLAMABAD: As the seven-day ultimatum given by the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) ended on Wednesday, its leader, Dr Mahrang Baloch, issued a new line of action to press for the recovery of missing persons. She announced that a protest camp would be set up in front of the United Nations (UN) offices.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch, leader of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC), expressed gratitude to the judiciary for restraining the Islamabad police from taking action against their protest camp. She criticized the police for profiling participants and visitors, stating they don’t seek security but the police presence is intimidating. Amid rumors of a police operation, the Islamabad High Court’s decision prevented any action. Dr. Mahrang announced the continuation of protests and camp expansion. She offered talks with authorities but demanded a change in their attitude. The BYC plans social media campaigns, strikes, and may establish a camp outside the UN if demands aren’t met. Dr. Mahrang criticized the caretaker prime minister’s statement labeling missing persons as terrorists, questioning court decisions’ implementation. The camp faced deteriorating conditions, with visitors donating essentials.
