Heavy rain, snowfall forecast from tomorrow


The meteorological department has issued a forecast predicting torrential rain, heavy snowfall, windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms across most parts of Pakistan from February 29 to March 2.

  • A strong westerly wave is expected to approach western parts on Feb 29 and may affect most parts of the country from March 1 to March 2.
  • In Islamabad and Punjab, heavy rain with windstorms/thunderstorms is expected in various regions including Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and others. Heavy snowfall is also anticipated in Murree and surrounding areas.
  • Balochistan is likely to experience heavy rain with windstorms/thunderstorms (and snowfall over hills) in several regions including Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Kalat, Gwadar, and others.
  • In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy to extremely heavy widespread rain with windstorms/thunderstorms (and heavy snowfall over hills) is expected in various districts including Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, and others.
  • Sindh may witness rain-wind/thunderstorm in several areas including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and others.
  • Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are forecasted to experience heavy to extremely heavy rain with windstorms/thunderstorms and snowfall in numerous regions including Gilgit, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and others.

The weather advisory warns of potential flash flooding in vulnerable areas, especially in nullahs of Balochistan and hill torrents of KP, Kashmir, Murree, and Islamabad/Rawalpindi.

Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, while farmers should take precautions to protect their crops. Authorities are urged to stay vigilant and implement necessary measures to prevent any untoward situations during the forecast period.
