PTA Chairman Maj-Gen Hafeezur Rehman informed the Islamabad High Court that phone hacking has become rampant, with 90% of mobile phones containing viruses compromising users’ privacy. He cited the example of the Pegasus software, capable of hacking phones within a minute. Telecom operators lack clarity on legal interception mechanisms, prompting the court to seek detailed reports. The court also questioned data sharing practices with law enforcement agencies and directed telecom operators to submit comprehensive reports. PTA can take action against cellular companies for privacy breaches, while Pemra Chairman highlighted measures against unverified content airing on television channels.
