Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan go unsold at 2024 The Hundred Draft

The draft saw as many as 32 men’s cricketers getting picked across eight teams

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan failed to attract any bids at The Hundred 2024 player draft. Despite registering at the last moment, they remained unsold, along with Pakistan’s T20 captain Shaheen Afridi.

On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi was retained by Welsh Fire for £100,000, while retired all-rounder Imad Wasim returned to Trent Rockets for the same amount. Ace pacer Naseem Shah was picked by Birmingham Phoenix for £125,000.

Notable Pakistan stars like Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, and Mohammad Amir were overlooked by franchises.

In the women’s draft, no Pakistani players were selected, while Australian players dominated the auction. West Indies players also garnered attention, with Nicholas Pooran being the first pick for Northern Superchargers. Among Indians, only Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh were selected.

Earlier, 64 Pakistan cricketers registered for The Hundred Draft, with two bowlers, Haris Rauf and Usama Mir, retained by Welsh Fire and Manchester Originals respectively.

The fourth edition of The Hundred is set to commence on July 23.
