Key allies assure govt of support to shore up economy

Pakistan’s new government is engaging with key diplomatic allies to bolster economic cooperation. European Union Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka, along with US Ambassador Donald Blome and China’s envoy Jiang Zaidong, recently met Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral and multilateral economic ties, particularly as Pakistan works towards securing the final tranche of $1.1 billion from the International Monetary Fund.

Official announcements highlighted support from these countries in various economic areas, with ambassadors affirming their support for Pakistan’s financial and economic relations.

The EU delegation clarified no formal communication had been received regarding Pakistan’s GSP+ status, dispelling previous concerns raised by the PML-N government.

Meetings with US Ambassador Blome were crucial, considering potential US assistance for future IMF loan arrangements. Minister Aurangzeb reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing ongoing IMF programs and economic reforms.

Additionally, discussions with the Chinese ambassador underscored China’s assistance to Pakistan across various sectors, contributing to economic stability.

Furthermore, UAE’s ambassador discussed bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE with Minister Aurangzeb, highlighting continued collaboration between the two nations.
