SC ‘won’t take over’ ECP’s job, CJP Isa tells PTI lawyer

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa on Friday said that the Supreme Court would not “take over” the job of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), noting that it was a constitutional body.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Isa, stressed the clear distinction between constitutional and statutory bodies during a hearing on the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) challenge against the restoration of PTI’s election symbol. The ECP argued that the PHC’s decision conflicted with the constitution and undermined the ECP’s role in regulating intra-party elections. The Chief Justice indicated that the SC won’t intervene if the ECP is effectively performing its duties. The hearing is adjourned, awaiting the PHC’s written order, and the ECP’s petition emphasizes the constitutional and statutory aspects of the case.
