SC hears former judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui’s petition against his removal

The Supreme Court on Tuesday is hearing a petition filed by former IHC senior puisne judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui against his removal.

Former judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui challenges his dismissal by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) over a speech accusing ISI of influencing court proceedings. The five-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, hears the case. Ex-ISI chief Gen Faiz Hameed denies involvement in the case. Siddiqui alleges undue influence on the constitution of benches. Legal counsels argue for a fair inquiry, and Siddiqui’s lawyer requests the removal order be declared unlawful. The court considers referring the matter back to the SJC for a proper inquiry. CJP Isa notes the importance of considering the appropriateness of a judge’s speech content.
