Lahore ATC confirms Imran’s bail in four cases

  • An anti-terrorism court in Lahore confirmed the pre-arrest bail of PTI founder Imran Khan in four cases related to the murder of Zille Shah, attack on police outside Zaman Park, and torching of PML-N offices in Model Town and a container at Kalma Chowk on May 9, 2023.
  • Special Prosecutor Rana Shakil alleged that Imran Khan was the mastermind and prime suspect of the May 9 attacks on army installations, inciting his workers to attack civil and army properties. Witness statements were presented to the court.
  • Defence counsel Barrister Salman Safdar denied the charges, stating that police stations were registering false cases against PTI leadership, including a case related to the death of Zille Shah.
  • Barrister Safdar argued that Imran Khan had previously been granted pre-arrest bail by a trial court on merit but was later denied due to his non-appearance following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. He requested the court to confirm Khan’s bail.
  • The judge confirmed the pre-arrest bail for Khan in all four cases, directing him to furnish bail bonds of Rs500,000 in each case.
  • The judge extended Khan’s pre-arrest bail in cases related to attacks on Jinnah House, Shadman police station, and Askari Tower until March 7.
  • Previously, the judge decided to hear Khan’s bail petitions without his virtual attendance from Adiala jail.
  • On August 11, 2023, an ATC dismissed Khan’s pre-arrest bail due to his non-appearance following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. However, the Lahore High Court set aside this decision, restoring his bail petitions and directing the trial court to decide on merit.
