Tragedy as 2 young men jump from Phnom Penh suicide hotspot


Early this morning, tragedy struck a provincial village as two young men shocked their families by leaping to their deaths from a notorious suicide hotspot in Phnom Penh.

Authorities have identified the victims as 19-year-old Chen Chi and 18-year-old Kim Savon, both residents of Srek Kandal village, Trapeang Prasat commune, Trapeang Prasat district, Oddar Meanchey province. The incident occurred at 2:10 AM on March 4, 2024, when the two men jumped from the Chroy Changvar Bridge in Sangkat Chroy Changvar, Khan Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh.

Reports indicate that Chen Chi and Kim Savon had been residing in a rented room near Tuol Sangke Market in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district.

According to sources close to the victims, they were battling depression after moving to Phnom Penh and facing challenges in securing employment. Their struggles with unemployment and their mental health ultimately led to this tragic outcome.
