Dr. Hun Manet reaffirmed the importance of the Funan Techo Canal project during his visit to the Techo International Airport construction site in Kandal province. He emphasized the project’s potential to benefit 1.6 million people along the canal and contribute to national development. The canal, under a BOT contract, will link the river system to the sea route. The project has undergone careful study by experts and is part of the government’s commitment to expanding waterway transport. The feasibility study is completed, and construction of the 180km-long canal is set to begin at the end of 2024, costing approximately US$1.7 billion. It will connect Prek Takeo of the Mekong River to the sea in Kep province, passing through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep provinces.
