The Supreme Court on Friday approved the post-arrest bail of former prime minister Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who are incarcerated at Adiala Jail, in the cipher case.
A three-member bench, led by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, directed PTI leaders to submit Rs1 million each in surety bonds in the cipher case. The case involves a diplomatic document that alleges Imran Khan never returned. The PTI had moved the Supreme Court seeking Imran’s post-arrest bail. Imran’s counsel argued for a fair trial, while the judge emphasized the right to a speedy trial. The counsel claimed political victimization and challenged charges under the Official Secrets Act. The judge questioned the danger to society by keeping the former prime minister in jail.
