AirAsia Cambodia to launch direct PP-KL flights

AirAsia Cambodia announced that it will commence daily direct flights between Phnom Penh International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport starting August 1 to provide travellers with convenient and affordable travel options between the two capitals.

AirAsia, in a post on its Facebook page last Friday, announced that AirAsia Cambodia from Phnom Penh is flying to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Starting August 1, 2024, join us on a journey to the heart of Malaysia, where you can enjoy the stunning skyline, rich heritage and delectable cuisine,” the airline said.

“The introduction of direct flights between Phnom Penh and Kuala Lumpur is a positive development for the tourism industry in Cambodia. It will enhance connectivity and make it easier for tourists to visit both countries.

AirAsia Cambodia’s expansion into international routes demonstrates the airline’s commitment to providing world-class air travel services and connecting Cambodia to the global market.

Cambodia welcomed 3.16 million foreign tourists in the first half of this year, up 22.7 percent from 2.57 million recorded in the same period in 2023.

Some 1.51 million foreign visitors or about 36.4 percent of the total foreign tourists arrived in Cambodia via airports, a year-on-year increase of 26.2 percent, and the rest via land border gates and waterways, the report pointed out.

Airport infrastructure and direct air connections contribute to encouraging and facilitating tourists to visit the country, said Ministry of Tourism’s Secretary of State and Spokesperson Top Sopheak.

“Increasing direct flights from abroad to Cambodia with new air routes will make it easier for passengers to travel to Cambodia,” Sopheak said.

The move is made after AirAsia Cambodia, a joint venture between AirAsia and hospitality group Sivilai Asia, launched daily flights in May between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and between Sihanoukville and Siem Reap.

Earlier in July, AirAsia started direct flights to Sihanoukville from Kuala Lumpur with three flights weekly.

Recently, the airline announced that it will launch direct flights between Siem Reap, Cambodia and Phuket, Thailand with three weekly flights from October 29 this year.
