At least 21 coal miners, including three Afghan nationals, were killed and six others injured in a terrorist attack at a private company’s mines near Duki district. Militants, armed with rockets and grenades, targeted the miners’ quarters and destroyed 10 mines along with equipment and machinery.
The attackers, estimated to be 35-40 in number, overwhelmed the private security guards, killing miners both inside their rooms and after lining them up outside.
Some survivors reported the use of drones by the attackers to locate the miners. Despite warnings to stop work at the mine, the miners continued, leading to the attack.
Balochistan’s Governor and Chief Minister condemned the incident, with CM Mir Sarfraz Bugti directing security forces to surround the area and apprehend the attackers. The local community staged protests, criticizing the lack of security in the region.
